Taiwan's first professional medical film studio in New Taipei City opens

Taiwan's first professional medical film studio in New Taipei City, created by Awesomeworks Production (翔聲國際有限公司) with the assistance of the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), officially opened on March 2, to solve the film industry's long-term issue of having difficulties renting locations for medical scenes. TAICCA has collaborated with the businesses to promote advancement in the cultural content industry and to help solve difficulties encountered.

Hospital and medical professionals are popular topics for television series and films globally. However, it may be difficult for operational hospitals to rent out emergency rooms, surgery rooms, and other areas for filming, especially with the mounting demand for medical services during the pandemic.

With the support from TAICCA's "Cultural Content and Technology Application Flagship Program," Awesomeworks Production was able to build this medical film studio and resolve the problem of lacking filming infrastructure. The studio will offer a wide range of scene backgrounds, including hospital beds, professional medical equipment, operating tables, waiting rooms, and cashier counters. In addition to extra spaces for film crews, lighting, hair and makeup rooms, and more.

TAICCA Chairperson Ting Hsiao-Ching (丁曉菁) visited the studio before its opening. Ting remarked that with the establishment of the medical film studio, film making will no longer be confined by lack of infrastructure, and the production crew may be emboldened in imagination. "We hope that the exceptional pandemic prevention in Taiwan will incentivize international production teams to film here, and further increase international collaboration with Taiwan's cultural content industry," she added.

TAICCA Vice President Alice Chang (張文櫻) attended the studio's opening press conference and shared her hope for the studio to develop a well-rounded business model and complete Taiwan’s cultural content ecosystem. This medical film studio provides a direct solution for the lack of sufficient medical-theme filming locations. It is especially significant during this global pandemic. We aim to collaborate and work with more film and television productions to create more content to display on the international stage, she added.

TAICCA strives to lead the advancement of the cultural content industry by incorporating Taiwan's strong technology capabilities with industry professionals to formulate concrete solutions. TAICCA will utilize national development funds and resources to invest and provide financial support, to further propel the overall advancement of Taiwan's cultural industries.
